Adam Carew’s Historic Hauntings Series draws together ghostly tales from right across Hampshire, putting them in their historical context.
Beautifully designed and in full colour the books are the perfect size to take exploring.

HISTORIC HAUNTINGS

Join author Adam Carew, as he explores ghostly legends and harrowing accounts of hauntings from all over Hampshire.

  • From phantom smugglers and Resurrection men in Britain’s most haunted parish of Bramshott, to the haunted tower at Warblington Castle home of one of last Plantagenets – Margaret de la Pole, brutally beheaded after 10 strokes of the axe on the orders of Henry VIII.

  • As he retells the traumatic murder of Sweet Fanny Adams in Alton, the barbarous exploits of the Hawkhurst Gang at Rowlands Castle, of devil dogs and ancient curses, from the regicide of William Rufus in the New Forest to ghostly echoes of English Civil War battles at Cheriton, Alton and Old Basing.

  • Through haunted lanes and taverns of Mediaeval Southampton, to Portsmouth’s infamous Wymering Manor, relive the tales of assassin John Felton who murdered the Duke of Buckingham in Old Portsmouth and “Jack the Painter” – publicly hanged from the Mast of the Arethusa for attempted arson of Portsmouth Dockyard. From the execution of Dame Alicia Lisle outside Winchester’s Eclipse Inn to the ghosts of Farnham Castle to Waverley Abbey join Adam on this chilling and fascinating ghost tour around Hampshire and West Surrey.

Historic Hauntings Series

Adam was drawn into researching ghosts and ghostlore quite by accident.

“I was due to give a lecture to a community group who erroneously booked me to a talk about local ghosts. I didn’t have a talk but did not want to let them down, I put a lecture together and it went down a storm. That became the basis of my first book Ghosts of East Hampshire (now in its fifth reprint). Other books followed and the rest is History..”
